Château d'Ermenonville

Château d'Ermenonville was built in 987 under Hugues Capet, King of the Franks, originally a fortress regulating traffic between Senlis and eastern markets. Across eleven centuries it hosted kings Louis XI and Henri IV, philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who spent his final six weeks here, Polish Prince Constantin Radziwiłł, and automobile designer Ettore Bugatti. It was bought in 1991 by the Philippe Savry group and converted into a high-end hotel; it also served as a filming location for the "Les Visiteurs" comedy films. The property joined the Terres de Natures label in 2022.

Today its 55 individually decorated rooms and suites, in a classical style with antique furniture, are all within the listed château, some featuring high ceilings and seating areas.

The château's 987 origin under Hugues Capet, founder of the Capetian dynasty, gives Ermenonville one of the oldest documented foundation dates in this entire French collection, predating most other castle-hotels by centuries.

Rousseau's final six weeks spent here, shortly before his 1778 death, tie the château to one of the Enlightenment's most influential philosophers, a specific literary and intellectual association rarely matched elsewhere.

The fact that all 55 rooms sit within the historic château itself, with the separate orangerie reserved purely for events, gives guests here a consistently period-authentic stay throughout the property.

The château's use as a filming location for the popular "Les Visiteurs" comedy films gives it a distinct pop-culture footnote alongside its deeper historical associations.

The château's position in the Oise Pays de France regional nature park gives guests staying at Ermenonville access to both Chantilly and Paris.
