Domaine de la Tortinière

The surroundings of Domaine de la Tortinière date to the Roman era, but the present château was rebuilt in 1886, inspired by Renaissance masterpieces such as the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau. It was acquired by the Capron family in the 1950s and converted into a luxury hotel, handed down through generations; it is now owned by Anne and Xavier Olivereau.

Today its 32 rooms and suites, fitted with antique furniture and private bathrooms, some overlooking the Indre River, are split between the turreted château and separate garden pavilions on the estate.

The property's Roman-era surroundings, predating the current 1886 building by nearly two millennia, give Tortinière a documented historical depth beneath its Renaissance-inspired 19th-century architecture.

The château's deliberate design inspiration from Azay-le-Rideau, one of the Loire Valley's most celebrated Renaissance châteaux, ties Tortinière stylistically to the region's architectural golden age even though it was built centuries later.

The Capron family's decades-long stewardship since the 1950s, now continued by the Olivereau family, gives Tortinière a multi-generational hospitality history distinct from more recently converted properties.

The estate's position in Veigné, near Montbazon, gives guests staying at Tortinière easy access to the area's cluster of Loire Valley château hotels, including Château d'Artigny.
