Schloss Korb

Schloss Korb was erected in 1236 as a residential tower for the von Korb lords, later passing through the hands of several aristocratic families before falling into decline. In 1834, Johann von Putzer restored the castle, expanded the structure, and added a chapel. In 1877 the property was acquired by the Tessmann family, among whose members was Friedrich von Tessmann, a noted scholar of Tyrolean culture.

In 1918 the Dellago family began transforming the castle into a model winery and romantic hotel with a gourmet restaurant. The castle remains in the Dellago family's hands today and is a recognized boutique hotel, valued for its refined atmosphere and its panoramic setting among vineyards and orchards, near the village of Missiano.

The von Korb family's original 1236 tower situates Schloss Korb among the older documented fortified residences on South Tyrol's Wine Route, predating much of the region's later castle-building.

Friedrich von Tessmann's ownership connects Schloss Korb to serious 19th-century scholarship on Tyrolean regional culture and history, distinct from the more purely aristocratic or commercial ownership histories of many other castles in this collection.

The Dellago family's century-plus stewardship, transforming the property into both a working winery and hotel, reflects a long-term family commitment to the estate similar to other multi-generational wine-castle properties in this collection.

The surrounding South Tyrol Wine Route and nearby Lake Caldaro give guests staying at Schloss Korb direct access to one of Italy's most distinctive Alpine wine landscapes, with Bolzano itself a short drive away.
