Guided tour of the State Apartments where the Bourbon royal family lived. Highlights include the grand ceremonial staircase — one of the finest in Europe — the throne room, the palatine chapel, and the royal library. The sheer scale of the halls is overwhelming.
Walk or take the tourist shuttle along the 3km axis through the formal gardens to the great cascade waterfall at the far end. Pass the fish ponds, fountains, and the Diana and Actaeon sculptural group at the foot of the waterfall. The view back down toward the palace from the cascade is extraordinary.
