The place began as a manor court enclosed by a stone wall, which is why it was called "the stone yard"; the court is first mentioned around 1370 in a list of Leuchtenberg fiefs. From 1509 it belonged to the Kynšperk estate, which was confiscated from the town of Kynšperk after the Battle of White Mountain in 1620 and held by the Metternich family until 1726.
The present château is late Baroque. Hrady.cz says the town of Kynšperk had it built in the late 18th century on the site of an already demolished fortified manor, while the hotel says a new château went up in the northern part of the court around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries and was completed by August Eusebius Haas, who bought the estate in 1840, so sources differ on who built it and when.
After the Second World War the army used the château; it was then left empty, vandalised and reduced to a ruin. In 2004 a private investor bought it and had it restored using historical materials, together with the park. It now operates as a château hotel with a restaurant, a wellness area and a park with a pond, in the West Bohemian Spa Triangle between Karlovy Vary, Františkovy Lázně and Mariánské Lázně.
