According to the hotel, the site had a royal hunting lodge from the time of Charles IV in the 14th century; we found no independent confirmation of this. In 1919 the local patron Paul Albrecht Weinkauf had the Munich architect Brendl rebuild the old lodge into a new château. After his death it passed to a health insurance company that opened a sanatorium there.

A large reconstruction from 2010 turned it into a hotel styled as Charles IV's hunting château, and it presented itself in renewed form in 2014; the present building is a 20th-century château rebuilt as a themed hotel.

Today it is a spa and wellness resort in the Ore Mountains forest, with a wellness centre (counter-current pool, hot tub, saunas), a restaurant, a medieval-style tavern and landscaped grounds, about 14 km from Karlovy Vary.
