Château des Charmes

Château des Charmes is an 1850 residence facing the Beaujolais, built in the mid-19th century by ironmasters on the site of a former farm that had been part of the estate of the neighboring Simond convent, destroyed during the Revolution. It offers unobstructed views over the Saône Valley and the Beaujolais mountains from its 3-hectare park.

Today it operates as a bed-and-breakfast within the residence, with rooms overlooking either the garden or the mountains; the château is also rented for professional and private events, from 30 to 300 people.

The estate's origin on the ruins of the Simond convent, destroyed during the Revolution, ties Château des Charmes to the broader wave of religious property seizures and destruction of that era, even though the current building postdates the convent by more than half a century.

The property's construction by 19th-century ironmasters, rather than a noble or royal family, gives it an industrial-era origin distinct from the medieval and Renaissance châteaux found elsewhere in the region.

Despite carrying the name "château," the property is a single 19th-century residence rather than a fortress with defensive origins, and its entire accommodation offering sits within that one building.

The château's position in Guéreins, with panoramic Saône Valley views, gives guests staying here a scenic base close to the Beaujolais wine route.
