Castello di Semivicoli

Castello di Semivicoli is in fact a baronial palace built between the 17th and 18th centuries for the Perticone barons, in the hills of Casacanditella, at the heart of Abruzzo's wine country. For generations it functioned as a noble residence and administrative center for the surrounding agricultural land, incorporating outbuildings such as a granary and a domestic prison, typical of large Italian rural estates of the Ancien Régime.

In 2004 the property was acquired by the Masciarelli family, one of the most influential wineries in the international rediscovery of Abruzzo wine since the 1980s. After a careful restoration completed in 2009, the palace reopened as an 11-room hotel, integrated into the estate's wine production: guests sleep literally among the vineyards that supply the Masciarelli winery.

The palace's granary and prison outbuildings, typical features of a self-sufficient noble rural estate, now lend their names and character to two of the hotel's suites — the Suite Granaio and the Suite Segrete — giving guests a tangible link to the building's working agricultural and administrative past rather than a purely decorative historic theme.

The Masciarelli family's stewardship since 2004 connects the property directly to Abruzzo's broader wine renaissance, in which a handful of committed producers raised the region's international profile considerably from the 1980s onward.

With only 11 rooms, Semivicoli offers a genuinely intimate scale rarely found among the larger resort-style castle-hotels in this collection, with the wine estate's own vineyards forming the immediate surroundings rather than a separate attraction.
