Château d'Étoges

Built in the early 17th century at the heart of the Champagne countryside, this listed château stands imposingly amid a 20-hectare park, with a large terrace, kitchen garden and magnificent fountains. It was originally a royal staging post on the eastern route, designed to receive guests — kings of France stayed here. It has been privately owned by the same family for over a century, and the latest generation decided to share the house with guests, opening some rooms as a guesthouse in 1991.

Today its 28-29 rooms are split between the château and its Orangery, a separate building on the estate; the property also has a gastronomic restaurant and a spa with eco-friendly treatments. Rooms in the château keep romantic views over the moat surrounding the building.

The estate's origin as a royal staging post, hosting kings of France on the eastern route, ties Étoges directly to the historic road network connecting Paris to eastern France.

The family's continuous private ownership for over a century, followed by the decision to open only some rooms to guests in 1991, reflects a gradual and relatively recent transition from private residence to hotel.

The presence of a separate Orangery building housing part of the room inventory means not every guest sleeps within the historic château itself, despite the moat and period architecture visible throughout the estate.

The château's position at the heart of Champagne, near Épernay, gives guests staying at Étoges easy access to the region's celebrated Champagne houses.
