Château de Hommes

The ruined château dates to the 12th century, though some sources place the current guesthouse building in the 15th century, and it stands surrounded by its original moat, at the heart of the Loire Valley châteaux and vineyards. The estate covers 170 hectares.

Guests here do not sleep inside the château. The 5 comfortable rooms (TV, minibar, coffee maker, courtesy tray) are within the tithe barn, a genuine 15th-century building — not the château ruins, which are preserved as a landscape and historic feature of the estate.

The château's ruined state, standing within its original moat, gives Hommes a genuinely atmospheric historic centerpiece even though it plays no role in overnight accommodation.

The tithe barn's own 15th-century construction date means guests sleeping there are still within a centuries-old building, distinct from — but roughly contemporary with or younger than — the ruined château itself.
