Château du Nessay

Château du Nessay was built in the late 19th century on the ruins of a medieval fortress, at the tip of a peninsula in the harbor of Saint-Briac-sur-Mer. It stood abandoned for a long time, becoming a gathering place for generations of children who visited the castle. Le Nessay was born from a desire to completely rehabilitate this "sleeping beauty." It opened as a hotel in 2018 and is today a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

Today its 17 rooms are split three ways: 11 within the château itself, 4 in the building's historic posterns, and 2 in a separate annex facing the château, on the beach — all with sea or beach views.

The site's medieval fortress origins, visible only as ruins beneath the current late-19th-century building, give Nessay a documented history stretching back centuries before the structure guests see today.

The château's long abandonment and informal role as a childhood gathering place, before its deliberate 2018 rehabilitation, gives the property a specific local memory distinct from estates that passed continuously through noble or commercial ownership.

The presence of a genuine, separate beachfront annex — 2 of the 17 rooms — distinguishes Nessay from château-hotels where all rooms sit within a single historic footprint, even though the large majority of rooms here remain within the château and its posterns.

The château's position on Brittany's Emerald Coast, near Dinard and Saint-Malo, gives guests staying at Nessay easy access to two of the region's best-known coastal towns.
