Son Vida Castle

The building occupies a former Mallorcan possessió (manor estate) dating to the 13th century, though it did not take its present name until the 16th century. It opened as a hotel in 1961, and has since become one of Mallorca's most iconic luxury addresses, today part of Marriott's Luxury Collection.

Set among green hills ten minutes from central Palma and fifteen from the airport, the hotel has welcomed distinguished guests throughout its history, including the Kings of Spain and international figures such as Aristotle Onassis and Maria Callas. It has 164 luxury rooms (including 10 suites), three restaurants, two bars, a 900 sqm spa area with three pools, and is surrounded by championship golf courses (Son Muntaner, Son Quint, and Son Vida).

The estate's origins as a 13th-century Mallorcan possessió, centuries before its 16th-century renaming and its eventual 1961 hotel conversion, give Son Vida a documented history spanning over 700 years.

The property's roster of historic guests — Spanish royalty, Onassis, Callas — ties Son Vida to a specific mid-20th-century era of international jet-set glamour on Mallorca.

The hotel's adults-only policy and Luxury Collection status distinguish it sharply from the state-run Paradores and independent heritage hotels that make up most of Spain's castle-hotel inventory, positioning Son Vida as a purely luxury-leisure destination.
