Titignano Castle

Castello di Titignano is a magnificent medieval village dating to the 10th century, built by Farolfo di Montemarte in the year 937, perched on a hill overlooking Umbria and the spectacular Tiber Gorge and Lake Corbara. The old structure was long disputed between Guelph Orvieto and Ghibelline Todi, two of the factions engaged in Italy's medieval civil wars.

Between the 16th and 17th centuries, the castle was transformed into a large palace with a small village forming its courtyard. Today the castle has become a luxury agriturismo, preserving its historical authenticity and offering a refuge of peace and nature, with period furnishings, exposed wooden beams, and terracotta floors throughout its units.

Farolfo di Montemarte's 937 founding places Titignano among the older documented settlements in this part of Umbria, predating by centuries the Guelph-Ghibelline conflicts that later defined its medieval history.
